Kristaps Porzingis’ Return to the Court Remains Uncertain
The Golden State Warriors have no timetable for Kristaps Porzingis to resume playing, saying the center will remain sidelined for an indefinite period because of a health issue. The team has not cleared him to take part in basketball activities, though he is expected to stay with the organization while his condition is addressed.
Porzingis, a 31-year-old Latvian, said he is working with doctors and medical specialists to make a full recovery as soon as possible. In a message shared on social media, he described his progress as encouraging, noting that he has been feeling better with each passing day. He also stressed that he needs to be patient and expressed confidence that he will soon feel well again.
The Warriors have not identified the specific medical problem, and the available information does not indicate when Porzingis might be able to return. For now, the immediate focus is on his recovery rather than setting a target date. The club said it would provide an update if there is a significant development regarding his potential return.
Porzingis had already missed important preparations for the season. According to ESPN, he called general manager Mike Dunleavy one day before training camp began to say he would not be able to join the team. He also did not travel to the Warriors’ camp in Hawaii and sat out the first five preseason games.
His absence leaves Golden State without a clear timeline for when one of its newly acquired big men can contribute on the court. Until the medical staff approves his participation in practice, Porzingis cannot begin the usual progression toward game action. That process generally requires a player to regain the necessary fitness and receive clearance before returning to full training.
The uncertainty is especially notable given the limited number of games Porzingis played last season. He appeared in 34 contests in total for the Atlanta Hawks and the Warriors. The two teams’ portions of that season came before Golden State’s decision to bring him into the roster in February.
The Warriors acquired Porzingis in a deal that sent Jonathan Kuminga the other way. During the offseason, the club then signed the Latvian center to a new two-year contract worth $40 million. His recovery will therefore be an important factor in how and when Golden State can make use of the player it committed to retaining.
For the team, the lack of a return date makes it difficult to plan around Porzingis’ availability. Coaches can continue preparing the roster without assuming he will be ready for a particular game, while the medical staff can assess his progress without pressure to meet an announced deadline. The Warriors have not provided further details about how his absence may affect their plans.
Porzingis’ own comments suggest that he is hopeful about his progress, but feeling better does not necessarily mean he is ready to train or play. The decisive step will be approval from the Warriors’ health staff. Until that comes, his role remains uncertain and the team will have to wait for further medical updates.
For fans, the clearest takeaway is that Porzingis remains part of the Warriors but is not currently available to play. The club has not announced a specific diagnosis, recovery schedule or projected return date. His next appearance will depend on his health and the medical team’s assessment, rather than a publicly stated calendar target.
