Fenerbahçe Says FIFA Transfer Ban Is Temporary
Fenerbahçe has said the three-window transfer ban imposed by FIFA is temporary and will be lifted after the club makes a payment related to striker Youssef En-Nesyri’s transfer fee.
The Turkish club explained that the case concerns an installment dated April 30, 2026, for En-Nesyri, who joined Fenerbahçe during the 2024-25 season. After the installment was not paid on time, the club involved in the transfer took the matter to FIFA.
Fenerbahçe said its current management paid the overdue installment after taking office. However, the other club’s FIFA case also sought payment of the next installment. Fenerbahçe said it had been waiting for FIFA to issue a decision on that payment.
The club now intends to settle the amount ordered by FIFA on Monday, the next business day. Once the payment has been made and the relevant administrative procedures with FIFA are complete, Fenerbahçe expects the transfer restriction to be removed.
The ban applies for three transfer windows, but Fenerbahçe has stressed that it should not be regarded as a permanent obstacle to recruitment. Its removal depends on the club fulfilling the payment obligation and completing the required formalities.
The timing of the lifting will therefore depend not only on the transfer of funds, but also on the processing of the case by FIFA. Until those steps are concluded, the restriction remains in place.
Fenerbahçe also said it would present financial statements and obligations from the previous period to its members and the public at its ordinary general assembly, scheduled for September 27, 2026. The club described this disclosure as part of its commitment to transparency.
The announcement addresses concerns about how the FIFA ruling could affect the team’s plans in the transfer market. While the ban is active, the club may face limits on registering new players. Fenerbahçe’s stated position, however, is that the measure is linked to a specific payment dispute and will be lifted once the required amount is paid and FIFA’s procedures are completed.
The case also highlights the importance of meeting scheduled transfer installments. When a payment is missed, the selling club can pursue the matter through FIFA, potentially leading to restrictions until the dispute is resolved.
For now, Fenerbahçe’s next step is to make the payment ordered by FIFA on Monday. The club says it will provide further clarification through its financial disclosures at the general assembly.
